Shop, sip and stay: Experience the joy of Truro’s wonderful Christmas Market

There’s something truly special about Truro at Christmastime. As the festive season draws closer, the city begins to glow with twinkling lights, cheerful music and that unmistakable anticipation of the Christmas. Lemon Quay and the surrounding streets transform into a winter market wonderland, and it’s just the place to wrap up warm, stroll at your own pace, and soak up the magic of this special time of the year.

Chalet-style stalls line the streets, filled to the brim with local crafts, thoughtful handmade gifts, winter treats and delicious bites to nibble as you wander. Cornish artisans bring their best work — everything from cosy knits and candles to jewellery, artwork, preserves and festive tipples. The scent of spiced drinks and the sound of laughter fills the air — it truly feels like Christmas.

And if you’re looking for a little indulgence along the way, Liz always recommends treating yourself to a hot chocolate from one of the market stalls. She loves hers with a drop of Cointreau — just enough to make it extra special, extra warming, and wonderfully Christmassy! It’s the perfect companion for browsing and soaking up the atmosphere.

The Christmas Markets open on 21st November and run right through to 24th December, making it the perfect excuse for a winter break. This year’s pantomime at the Hall for Cornwall runs from 5th December to 3rd January, and promises plenty of sparkle, music, fun and laughter. It’s the perfect treat for all ages — because we all love a bit of panto fun, don’t we? Oh yes we do!

Plus, no visit to Truro at this time of year would be complete without stepping inside the beautiful Truro Cathedral for one of its atmospheric carol concerts. With candlelight, soaring voices and the soft hush of winter outside, it’s a moment to pause, breathe, and truly feel the spirit of Christmas.
