Liz’s Cornish Apple Cake
September 20, 2025
Autumn at Callestock is always a special time of year, and nothing says autumn quite like the smell of Liz’s famous apple cake baking in her farmhouse kitchen. 🍎🍰 Made with the freshest of apples from our wonderful old Bramley tree in the garden at Orchard Cottage, it’s a true seasonal favourite – and best enjoyed warm with a generous dollop of Rodda’s Cornish Clotted Cream. Pure comfort food!

We feel so lucky to have such a fruitful garden here. Alongside the Bramley, our damson trees, pear trees and plum tree have also had a fantastic year, producing an abundance of fruit. Guests staying with us are always welcome to help themselves and take a few apples home – the perfect reminder of your time at Callestock. Here’s Liz’s Cornish Apple Cake recipe for you all to try, we know that you’ll love it.

Next on Liz’s list is a big batch of her delicious damson jam, made with those deep purple jewels from Ben and Jess’s orchard. Keep an eye out in our next blog, where we’ll be sharing the recipe – you won’t want to miss it!
