Here's our round-up of the very best Christmas markets and shopping centres in Cornwall, so you've got something different to put under the tree this year.

Padstow

Its annual Christmas Market in early December normally signifies the start of Christmas for me and Nick, but why wait til the crowds arrive?

The bustling fishing port of Padstow is beautiful in the Winter and offers a fantastic choice of quirky gifts to make anyone smile.

St Ives

Famous for its amazing natural light which attracts landscape artists throughout the year, St Ives offers an eclectic mix of independent shops and cafes.

The window displays are always pretty, and at Christmas they light up the streets with their traditional decorations, handmade gifts and locally sourced food.

Wadebridge

Wadebridge is fast becoming a foodie destination, with many independent Cornish food and drink producers selling in the town.

If you know someone who loves a bit of oak-smoked salt, someone who lectures educates their friends on the latest avocado shortages, then Wadebridge has gifts they will love.

Fowey

This historic town sits in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the South coast of Cornwall, with a large river and deep water harbour adding to its character.

Medieval and Georgian buildings line the narrow streets, where you'll find quaint tea rooms, colourful independent shops and endless references to the town's most famous resident, Daphne Du Maurier.

Mousehole

Perched on the western tip of Cornwall is this tiny fishing village. You may have heard of its Christmas lights, which reflect on the waters of the harbour every December, but you may not know about its art galleries, cafes and boutique shops.

PS To avoid any stress when trying to find a parking space, we advise you take the short bus ride from Penzance.  Alternatively, you could park in Newlyn and walk along the coast, it's a lovely walk into Mousehole, with gorgeous views of Mounts Bay.

Truro

If you're looking for a day's serious shopping, you must visit Truro. It's only 15 minutes from the cottages here at Callestock, with loads of parking, a very affordable (and reliable) Park & Ride service, and scores of fabulous shops.

The iconic 19th Century Cathedral is always worth a visit, and there are also loads of hidden gems tucked away in the markets and cobbled streets.

Falmouth

You'll find a fascinating mix of specialist shops, from the popular independent bookshop to the art galleries, jewellers and artisan food producers.

Its thriving high street, packed with shops, pubs and cafes, ensures you'll find every gift you need, even the difficult uncle who already has everything.
