Cornwall's population swells by around 300,000 people every Summer, as families and couples head to the county to enjoy the beaches, the coastpath and the sunshine. But we prefer Cornwall in the Autumn - the stunning colours, the mild temperatures, and the deserted beaches.
And if you need more convincing that now might be a better time to visit, here are a few things at the top of our to-do list over the next few weeks.
You can't beat the cosy feeling of sinking into a comfortable armchair with a glass of something warming, watching the flames flicker in the hearth as you chat about your day with your other half.
Many of the local pubs, including the Hawkins Arms near Callestock Courtyard, serve freshly cooked wholesome dishes for lunch and dinner, made with locally-sourced ingredients. Just what you need on a cool Autumn evening after a walk along the beach or coastpath.
Talking of beaches, if you're visiting in the Autumn, you'll want to bring a picnic blanket and a jacket. Cornish beaches are often empty at this time of year, offering a wide open space to explore, whether you're a keen walker or prefer to sit and watch the waves with a picnic on the sand.
You must also head to the South West coastpath, which takes you to some of the region's finest beaches, and the surrounding countryside is never prettier than in Autumn.
Elegant country houses, sweeping landscaped gardens, manicured lawns and mature woodlands are right on the doorstep. At this time of year you can scuff through the leaves, breathe in the fresh air and gradually unwind in natural surroundings.
The Autumn colours are simply stunning and are guaranteed to put on an impressive show.
If you're green-fingered, be inspired with five of our favourite Cornish gardens, all in full Autumnal splendour right now.
This indulgent treat is delicious at any time of year, but in the Autumn it's particularly special, ideally enjoyed in a beachside cafe, watching the waves crashing onto the sand.
A Cornish cream tea is the perfect accompaniment - after all, you're on holiday so calories don't count...
Cornwall has become a magnet for celebrity chefs, with Rick Stein, Nathan Outlaw and Paul Ainsworth all setting up Michelin-starred restaurants in the region. But it's not just the views that they love - the quality of fresh ingredients is second to none.
Get a taste of this quality for yourself and see the chefs in action at one of the many food and drink festivals that take place throughout the season.
