Antiques Roadshow, Events Square in Falmouth

What could we dust off to take along to the BBC1′s Antiques Roadshow, the only item that sprung to mind was our Breakfast Table that we use on a daily basis that Nick’s Dad had bought at a farm sale about 50 years ago. A representative from the AR team contacted us to say that they were very keen to have it on the show and collected it from us last Wednesday to take it to Falmouth.  We had to be in Falmouth on Thursday at 10am for filming so we headed off on the train from Truro and Nick and I were joined by Nicks brother Joe who knew more about the history of the table.

Apparently, Nick’s Dad bought the table along with a couple of other items for 10 shillings.  It was used and abused by the Down family back then and continues to be used by the Down family today.  Deborah Lambert one of the Antiques Roadshow experts gave her opinion that the table dates from about the 1850-1860′s which is what we really wanted to know.  The value is not great, which I am delighted about as if it was worth a fortune we would be frightened to use it!

The photos above show Nick and Joe enjoyed the filming – hopefully the piece will be used on the televised Antiques Roadshow later in the year  and if you are keen to catch it – don’t worry we’ll let you know the date.
